“You can’t get there from here” will be no joke overnight Sunday and Monday as Caltrans will shut down the tunnel that connects the Santa Monica (10) Freeway to Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica.
Crews will be washing the tunnel near the Santa Monica Pier, sealing cracks, removing brush, trimming trees, sweeping and removing graffiti.
While you may be able to win a bar bet by knowing the official name of the enclosed roadway — it’s the McClure Tunnel — that knowledge won’t be of much help on your overnight drive as all lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday and from 10 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to Caltrans.
Detour signs will be posted, but in something of an understatement, Caltrans warned motorists of expected delays and urged finding alternate routes.
